PULP

For much of their career, the British Pulp were a glorious anomaly in the music of the islands. His 80s records, dark introspective anthems with Roxy Music and Bowie as references, sounded as fascinating as they were out of place in an indie scene dominated by the unbridled hedonism of the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. With the explosion of Britpop in the following decade, Jarvis Cocker and his gang achieved their biggest commercial successes, but they really had little in common with the nostalgic rock of Oasis and Blur.

Beyond the singles that we all know, Pulp’s discography hides some of the best songs of the last four decades: sophisticated confections of languid and elegant indie rock in which there is room for both references to glam and disco nods, always dominated by a Cocker that goes from sex to costumbrista portraits of the working class with amazing naturalness.
